Folk Roots, New Routes

This event in 2008 curated by Shirley Collins stretched across a weekend of concerts on the South Bank. Brighton Morris put on a display in the Queen Elizabeth Hall foyer, provided dance interludes to one of Shirley’s lectures on the development of folk music, and filled two spots in the headline concert at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, either side of the interval.

As the full dancing side took to the stage at the start of the second half, a member of the audience was heard to exclaim ‘Lord there’s hundreds of ‘em!’. One review in the national press provided us with one of our more enduring slogans – ‘the improbably nimble Brighton Morris’.
