We have a strong and experienced band. Instruments include concertina, melodeon, fiddle, drum and tuba.
Playing for Morris is a bit of a skill because the beat changes to match the dance steps. For the same reason we often use only one or two musicians at a time – especially for jigs – to make it easy to adapt moment by moment to each dancer’s steps and timing.
Most of our musicians are dancers, or have previous experience of playing for dance. But of course we are always on the lookout for new musicians, and to explore ways to develop our sound. Get in touch with us if you would like to know more.
You will spend most of the first year learning the tunes and working with the dancers during practices. So although people can join at any time, it’s best if you join us at the start of the practice season in October, ready to dance out the following April.
